Emerging in Pittsburgh?

This Announcement has been posted at the Emergent-US blog:

Emergent/Postmodern Ministry on the College Campus
WHO: Open to anyone who wants to talk about the emerging church, including those seeking to understand postmodern ministry on the college campus.
RESPOND BY: October 10 (write a comment below).

Bob Robinson, Area Director for Northern Ohio for the CCO (Coalition for Christian Outreach), has arranged an interaction time with Tony Jones, the National Coordinator for Emergent-U.S, on Sunday night, October 16th at 8:00 PM (note time change!) at the Open Door (801 N. Negley Ave. in the Union Project, Pittsburgh) after the Open Door’s evening worship gathering. Also present for the discussion will be Pittsburgh-based emerging church leaders, including B.J. Woodworth, pastor of the Open Door.

Tony Jones is the National Coordinator for Emergent-US, the leading voice in the emerging church movement exploring how to do Christian ministry in a postmodern culture. He is finishing his Ph.D. in practical theology at Princeton Theological seminary. Previously, he was the Minister to Youth & Young Adults at the Colonial Church of Edina in Minnesota. Educated at Dartmouth College and Fuller Seminary, Tony is the author of Postmodern Youth Ministry (YS/Zondervan, 2001), Soul Shaper (YS/Zondervan, 2003), Read, Think, Pray, Live (NavPress, 2003) Pray (NavPress, 2003), and The Sacred Way (Zondervan, 2005).

  1. bob,
unfortunately i will not be able to attend the tony jones gathering, but was wondering if you could tape it for me... maybe video? i had plans to go away that weekend to the dayton area and will not be able to trek it all the way to pittsburgh, but i am interested in hearing what he has to offer.

  2. Guys: Ooooh. Wish I could be at the Tony Jones event.

Would it be useful to have a handful of each of his books? Could send you some on consignment if you want...

Thanks for all you do, and your consideration of us serving you in this way.

in peace, love, reformation--may they emerge

  3. Looking forward to the 16th of October with Tony Jones. Don't know exactly what you have a mind for the 7:30pm conversation on postmodern ministry, but have you touched base with Nicole about him coming out. Thanks for the info.

  5. Bob-sounds fascinating! Very little of this kind of interest happens here in the Rockies. I would be interested in how he in general approaces the role of relevance versus doctrine (or if the two are not to be pitted against each other).

  6. Bob -
Sarah Landini is a good friend of mine, and passed the info on regarding Tony Jones being @ Open Door in October. My husband and I are both very involved with the emergent church movement, including being a part of Three
Nails (a decidly post-modern church plant!) We're happy to help out, support, promot, etc. as I know a good number of CCO staff and live just up the street from BJ.

    Peace,
    Leslie

  11. Bob -

I'm over in Warren, OH working as an emerging pastor in a traditional setting at the First Baptist Church of Warren.

Is this event open to non-Campus Ministry folks?

Whatever the case, I'm just up the road... I'd like to meet you and other emerging types in the NE Ohio area if possible. E-mail me at mmthomas at fbcwarren dot com if you're interested.
